A year ago I had a professional photographer friend for dinner. That night I showed him some of my photos and asked for his input. What he shared with me in the night has come to bring my photos to a whole new level, and I’d like to share this wisdom with you.

Key # 1 – Learn how to creatively and crop your photos.

For decades, the size of the photographs from standard 3 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 8 x 10 11 x 14 16 x 20, etc. In the old days, you would choose your negatives to a shop and the sizes you want. They had the choice between different sizes, but you never really had the choice to change the dimensions and proportions of the size. In other words, if you had a nice wide landscape, you could not trim some of the top and bottom and get a printout with a non-standard sizes such as 14 x 5 The key point here is: the old, traditional values ??and proportions were to limit your creative expression as an artist and photographer.

It is time for you to start to crop your photos and other to maximize your creative expressions of the scenes in your photos. For example, when my friend looked at one of my photos of a beautiful harbor, Maine, he suggested that I have a lot in the sky a little boring, uninteresting, and some collect lead. He taught me that these areas are often wasted space, because they contain elements, uninteresting and do not include the entire composition of the image are added. He was right!

Had gone that evening to my friend, I jumped on my laptop and immediately started again culture that many of my landscapes of nature. I could not believe what a difference it has made shocking. What was a good picture suddenly a great shot, because the dynamics of the composition changes to be artistic and creative. Now, one year later, I cut all my photos automatically in this way more freely and creatively, and I never regretted the traditional dimensions and proportions.

A challenge that I had to learn to overcome to do with my photos of framing the new section. As you can imagine, do the standard pre-made frame not with the dimensions of my creative photographs. I found two solutions to this problem.

The first solution is simply out of custom mats and frames to match the size of my photos cropped creatively. It’s a bit more expensive than the old standard-size prefabricated frames, but worth it if you have a great shot.

The second solution is to create an electronic carpet in Adobe Photoshop, fit the standard sizes. In other words, if your image is 12 x 6, then you can use a mat 14 x 11, by creating a duty on the top and bottom and 2.5 inches on the left and right.

I encourage you to start off your photos instantly crop an artistic and creative perspective, rather than remain confined within the traditional dimensions.
