A year ago I had a professional photographer friend for dinner. That night I showed him some of my photos and asked for his input. What he shared with me in the night has come to bring my photos to a whole new level, and I’d like to share this wisdom with you.

Key # 1 – Learn how to creatively and crop your photos.

For decades, the size of the photographs from standard 3 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 8 x 10 11 x 14 16 x 20, etc. In the old days, you would choose your negatives to a shop and the sizes you want. They had the choice between different sizes, but you never really had the choice to change the dimensions and proportions of the size. In other words, if you had a nice wide landscape, you could not trim some of the top and bottom and get a printout with a non-standard sizes such as 14 x 5 The key point here is: the old, traditional values ??and proportions were to limit your creative expression as an artist and photographer.

It is time for you to start to crop your photos and other to maximize your creative expressions of the scenes in your photos. For example, when my friend looked at one of my photos of a beautiful harbor, Maine, he suggested that I have a lot in the sky a little boring, uninteresting, and some collect lead. He taught me that these areas are often wasted space, because they contain elements, uninteresting and do not include the entire composition of the image are added. He was right! (more…)

By experimenting with many different hardware and many different theories, I learned a lot about macro photography, and what it takes to get a quality system, while on a budget. It includes several elements of a configuration to discuss macro, and I will concentrate on the target, and the equipment necessary to connect the body of the camera and turn it into a macro lens, if it was voluntarily made to a macro or not .

I saw many beautiful prints Fine Arts subjects with macro-configurations rather cheap shot. First, please understand that time is the most automatic cameras in their discussion, counting, etc. Of course, this was not the case, 20 or 30 years, as many macro-technology was developed. That said, I want to make sure you understand that this is a manual configuration. However, it is well with film or digital SLR camera.

Modern cameras are becoming smaller and more automated, but also for macro photography, small and automation are not necessarily an advantage. There are some really good macro lenses for modern SLR cameras from all major vendors. However, prices are usually $ 500. If you add the cost of artificial lighting, you want to pay about a grand. Our goal here is of a quality yet cost-effective alternative, so we will be able to access it. (more…)
